Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has earned her the title of one of the top American actors. Born to a famous playwright's father, and being raised by a single mother who worked as a nurse, she was drawn to theatre when working with her father during the summer, eventually studying acting, initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Beginning her career at the Broadway soon after graduation, she appeared in film within two years. She also appeared on TV within a year. Innumerable appearances in movies, television shows and stage shows since. Her nominations include three Tony Awards, three Academy Awards, five Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her career. While she has received numerous awards over the years, theater has always been her first interest.
